ADAM ETERNO made his comics debut in the BRITISH weekly comic THUNDER on the 17TH OCTOBER 1970.He had 12 adventures including 4 complete stories stretched across the 22 Issue run of THUNDER which ended on the 13TH MARCH 1971.In the advertisement of the last issue announcing the amalgamation with LION for their 20TH MARCH 1971 first combined Issue which featured more crossover strips than the lead title,AE wasn't even mentioned!(see YE EXTRAS). AE would run in LION & THUNDER for the full 161 Issues from LION & THUNDER 1(Lion Issue 0976)20th March 1971 until LION & THUNDER 161(Lion Issue 1136)18th May 1974 and also featured in 3 LION & THUNDER HOLIDAY SPECIALS 1971,1972 & 1973 and 2 LION HOLIDAY SPECIALS 1974 & 1975 and 3 THUNDER ANNUALS 1972,1973 & 1974 plus 6 LION ANNUALS-1975 to 1980.A point to note here is that AE strips that carried the THUNDER title, whether Weekly,Holiday Special or Annual were all ORIGINAL,not a reprint in sight, surely an achievement in itself!
LION amalgamated with VALIANT on the 25TH MAY 1974 for a 9 MONTH tenure during which time LION would be dropped from the masthead on the 29TH MARCH 1975 when VALIANT went solo until it teamed up with VULCAN on the 10TH APRIL 1976.VALIANT dropped the VULCAN masthead sometime in SEPTEMBER effectively going solo again until it too was ended on the 16TH OCTOBER 1976(1 day before AE's 6th comic birthday!).ADAM ETERNO did not cross over to BATTLE PICTURE WEEKLY!ADAM ETERNO also featured in 4 VALIANT HOLIDAY SPECIALS 1975-1979 and 4 VALIANT ANNUALS 1976,1978,1979 & 1980! ____________________________________________________________________________ FOOTNOTE 1:

*ALL COMICS PUBLISHED BY I.P.C./FLEETWAY IN U.K.* ____________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Adam Chronology During the course of this series it can be seen that Adam takes on three distinct personae in succession:
1-The Selfish Adam-Killer of Alchemists-31 till age 50: Drinks his masters(Erasmus Hemlock)potion at age 31,gets cursed and tries to kill all alchemists so only he can live forever-up to age 50(but is warned by a different dying alchemist he will be killed by a golden sword which he eventually seeks out in ww2 hoping it will now kill him!But relents instead saving his comrades) 2-The Suicidal Adam-Seeker of Gold Death-till age 421 Despised and feared by people because of his endless youth-joins armies of the world-desperately tries to kill himself at every opportunity 3-The Vigilante Adam-421 Forever!: Knocked down in 1970 by Greek millionaire Hymis Metataxis' gold plated limousine which sends him into oblivion cursed to travel up and down the timeline he has already lived through![This is later changed to include the past and future outside his original time lived.]He awakes on an old fashioned ship, confused believing he has to live his life all over again. He has a few adventures still trying to get himself killed, but in Thunder Issue 8 he is thanked by people for ridding them of the Flying Footpad. He is so taken by this that he vows from then on to avoid gold and help people.[The intro to Adam Eterno in Lion & Thunder alters this change of heart to when he is first blown into oblivion] Adams Age!!!!!! Timescale: 1580 acquires everlasting life at age 31[Thunder Issue 1] 1970 knocked down and blown into oblivion at age 421 1970-1580=390 421-390=31 Anomilies- 1-Thunder Issue 5-states he is over 300 years old when in fact he is over 400 years old(421) 2-Thunder Issue 11-Adam is known to his british comrades as Private Eterno(which would indicate that he is a resident of that time and has not materialised into that time as in his usual adventures)However his fear of gold did not come about until a few adventures as a time-traveller when he sought to help mankind by avoiding gold rather than seeking it out to end his own life. 3-Adam lapses between normal modern English and Middle English. ****************************************** I believe these anomalies arise because the character and story were still in development. ****************************************** |
